This Ronstan watch, commemorates the 9th event and this 2025 Melbourne to Osaka Double Handed Yacht Race. 

The Melbourne to Osaka Cup is a 5,500-nautical-mile, two-handed yacht race from Melbourne to Osaka, and one of the few South-North long-distance ocean races in the world. The route spans multiple weather systems and seasons across the Pacific Ocean.

Starting off Portsea, competitors navigate Bass Strait, up Australia's east coast, and cross the East Australian Current into the southeasterly trade winds. They then pass through the Solomon Islands and the doldrums at the equator, encountering the northeasterly trade winds and equatorial current before contending with the Kuroshio (Japan Current) along Japan's Pacific coast. The race concludes in Osaka, on Honshu Island.

The Osaka Cup aims to promote challenging, long-distance, short-handed racing, providing a proving ground for true seamanship. It encourages the development of seaworthy yachts and appropriate gear for short-handed ocean crossings under sail. This is Australia's longest Category 1 yacht race, equivalent to eight back-to-back Sydney to Hobart races, with only two crew members on board.
